South Africa’s number one strike bowler Dale Steyn was bought by Bangalore for $325,000 at auction in the Indian Premier League in Mumbai on Wednesday.
Steyn would probably not have imagined been such hot property six months back but a phenomenally successful home season against New Zealand (when he took 20 wickets in two Tests and was man of the match twice) and then West Indies saw him rocket to number two in the ICC Test bowling tankings.
In the IPL, he will line up with fellow South Africans Jacques Kallis and Mark Boucher as well as local boys Rahul Dravid (team captain) and Anil Kumble and fellow overseas recruits Nathan Bracken and Shivnarine Chanderpaul.
Steyn is currently with South Africa on tour in Bangladesh.
